Why should I replace my
condensing unit when my air
handler is the problem right now?

1) If your system is more than 5 years
old, technological advances, especially in
SEER ratings make it important for your
split system to match. Units older than 5
years were not rated. New equipment
today must be at least 10 SEER. With
mis-matched equipment, the benefits of
energy efficient units would not be
realized.

In many areas, the local electrical utility
offers rebates for installation of higher
SEER A/C equipment, further reducing
your cost.
As of January 1, 2006 only 13 SEER units
will be manufactured. Only parts will be
available for existing units under 13 seer.
Why does my air handler ice up?

3) The most common reasons for icing up
in the cooling mode are:

* Dirty filters

* Allowing unit to run when outside
temperature is below 70 degrees

* Low refrigerant charge

These (3) problems account for at
least 90% of all "icing up"
situations.
Should I have a humidistat put on
my A/C system?

4) If you are a part time resident, i.e.,
away from your home for more than 4
weeks at a time, a humidistat is a good
idea in northern frigid climates. Here in
Florida this is typically not required.

Should I get a waste heat recovery unit?

5) In warm climates where your A/C runs
about half of the year, your heat recovery
unit will provide all your hot water needs
without using any additional energy.

electronic air cleaner installed?

any of these things are a concern to you,
definitely upgrade your A/C filtration. You
